Electrify America to Install Electric Vehicle Charging Stations in Oklahoma

Electrify America announced plans to install over 100 Walmart stores across 34 states in the U.S. on April 21, 2018.

Electrify America—a unit of Volkswagen Group of America and Walmart Inc. announced plans to work together with an aim to install electric vehicle (EV) chargers at over 100 Walmart store located across 34 states, five stores of which are located in Oklahoma.

Officials at Oklahoma revealed that they expect each of the Oklahoma Walmart locations to be along major interstate corridors designated by the state as alternative fuel corridors.

It has also been revealed that each of these locations for electric vehicle charging will hold a capacity of providing ultrafast charging capabilities to drivers, regardless of the model of electric vehicle they drive. This would make it easier to charge any electric vehicle, efficiently, without spending much time to totally recharge.

According to the project, every Walmart location will consist of enough chargers to handle four vehicles at a time, while officials believe that the estimated cost for installing each of these chargers will account for between US$ 40,000 and US$ 100,000.

Officials expect that these chargers will be designed to provide consumers with a simplified ‘Plug-Pay-Charge-Go’ experience, which allows people to complete the whole charging and payment process quickly. This Plug-Pay-Charge-Go is expected to be installed and operational by June 2019.

This initiative taken by these Electrify America, is expected to accelerate the state’s friendliness to electric vehicles, especially as newer models with increased ranges are being launched. Thus, it would be possible for these electric vehicles to travel the interstates.
